Throttle Position Sensor

Throttle cables are becoming a thing of the past as drive by wire systems quickly make gains in popularity. As this change takes place, the throttle position sensor (TPS) is playing a larger role in engine management. Regardless of how the throttle input is applied, a throttle position sensor plays an important role in the modern automobile. This sensor measures the throttle valve angle and sends a proportional voltage signal to the ECU. The ECU uses this data to calculate the engine’s ignition and fuel system requirements according to the current throttle position.

TPI’s throttle position sensors are all thoroughly tested against heat, cold, vibration and salt spray. All of True Parts Incorporated sensors meet or exceed OEM specifications from OEM Tier II manufacturers and facilities are QSO/ISO certified. TPI is now offering over 100 SKUs in this product line. Each sensor is carefully packed with a silica bag to avoid oxidization and moisture.

Failure Mode:

A bad throttle position sensor often will cause a check engine light along with a code such as P0121. Some vehicles will go into a “limp mode” when a TPS sensor fails. Most common failures are due to dirt, water, vibration and over-voltage damage caused by wiring faults.
